Virat Kohli is back at his very best – Irfan Pathan fires massive warning to England
Having proven their worth as a Test cricket powerhouse, England will arrive in India for a five-match series with an aim to rack up as many World Test Championship points in the Indian subcontinent.
For the hosts, much of the focus will be on their batting, and all eyes will be on one man. Virat Kohli, who will be one of India’s most vital cogs in the upcoming series.
Kohli finished the recently concluded South Africa Test series as the team’s leading run-scorer, contributing handsomely on tracks that proved difficult for batters. He scored a gritty 38 in the first innings of the first Test in the Rainbow Nation while following that up with a warring 76. In the Cape Town Test where he batted once, he put up 46 from 59 balls, showcasing exemplary batting class.
Former Indian all-rounder, Irfan Pathan, told Star Sports that he feels Virat is going to be a key contributor in the upcoming series. Pathan opined that a lot of India’s fate in the series will rely heavily upon the shoulders of the former Indian skipper and how he bats in the series.
Pathan said, “Virat Kohli is back at his very best, this is good news for Indian cricket and Virat Kohli fans. He was exceptional in South Africa and his foot movement was brilliant. He is showing aggressive signs with his footwork and that might help him score runs in the England series.”
Kohli averaged 43 in the Test series against South Africa where he amassed 172 runs. This is going to be Kohli’s 114th Test match, coming on the back of 8848 runs from the ones he played before this. Across his illustrious Test career, Virat has produced 29 centuries and 30 half-centuries.
