As Rohit Sharma and company gear up for the mighty England challenge at home with their eyes set on paving a smoother path for themselves in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, the fans will be hoping for another barnstorming display from the Indian cricket team. However, against an England team that boasts of a star-studded unit, that is a job easier said than done.

The last time England came visiting India for a Test series is one the former will want to forget soon. From winning the first Test courtesy of their exemplary batting flair to crumbling down like a bunch of schoolboys against the mighty Indian cricket team in the following three contests, it was a transition that nobody expected in 2021.

Before the show hits the road for the latest edition of the series, here are the top performers for India from England’s last visit, just a gentle reminder of the ravagers who can still prove to be a thorn in the English flesh.

Rohit Sharma – 345 runs

The Indian captain led the scoring charts for the Indian cricket team with a staggering haul of 345 runs at a breezy average of 57.50. Rohit smashed a blistering century and another fifty to aid those momentous numbers that tormented the English bowlers frequently. With 43 fours and five sixes, the Hitman did prove to be England’s worst nightmare at the top of the order.

Rishabh Pant – 270 runs

The hard-hitting southpaw once again filed a case for his brilliance, rocking and rolling through the England bowling unit. Pant hammered 270 runs at an average of 54 while clubbing a century and a couple of half-centuries in the process. His series haul included 32 fours and 10 sixes.

Ravichandran Ashwin – 32 wickets

When you are playing in India, the name Ravichandran Ashwin takes the shape of a T-Rex and for the oppositions, it feels like that they have stepped into a Jurassic Park with the key lost on another planet. Ashwin claimed 32 wickets in the series at an economy rate of 2.50 while averaging just 14.71, including three fifers in the series, leaving the visitors in utmost agony.

Axar Patel – 27 wickets

The lanky southpaw was quick to act on the opportunity given to him and holding the England batters on a string, he would frequently channel one of those quicker deliveries through the gates, getting a wicket or two even before the batting side knew what they were up against. He finished the series with a haul of 27 wickets, averaging 10.59, numbers that would send shivers down the spine of any batting team in the world.
