Virat Kohli has the best possible team in Indian history: Anshuman Gaekwad
Virat Kohli is one of the most charismatic cricketers of all-time. The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper has an exceptional record in terms of leading the national side. In 2014, when MS Dhoni hung up his boots in Test Cricket, Virat Kohli became captain of the Indian Test Team. He has led India in 55 Tests, which has resulted in 33 wins at a win percentage of 60 per cent, making him the captain with the most Test wins for India.
In 2017, the 32-year-old became the full-time captain of India after MS Dhoni announced that he would step down from limited-overs captaincy.
Let's take a look at some of the records Virat Kohli has set as the Indian captain
- Most consecutive wins as Indian captain
- Captained India to its most consecutive Test series wins
- Captained India to its longest unbeaten streak in Tests
- Number 1 ranked side in Tests
- First Indian captain to win a Test series in Australia
- ODI series win in South Africa
- 5-0 T20I series win in New Zealand
Speaking to Sportskeeda, former Indian coach Anshuman Gaekwad remarked that Virat Kohli's Indian team has been the best. Everything in the team is top-notch be it batting, bowling, fielding or fitness, as everyone gives 100% when they don the Indian colours. This Indian side includes the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav, which make them a fierce and lethal pace bowling line-up.
"If you ask me, I believe that he (Virat Kohli) has the best possible team in Indian history. Bowling, batting, the balance of team are the best. Up till now, we had no pace bowlers. We had Karsan, Roger, Kapil, but they didn't win matches for you all the time. Today, they have a battery of pacers with options, and they are winning matches for you," Gaekwad told Sportskeeda.
Currently, India stands first in the World Test Championship and second in ICC Test rankings. While they rank second and third in ODIs and T20Is respectively.
Team India will try their best to reclaim their coveted spot once they are back on the field.
