Top three Indian performers against South Africa ft Virat Kohli

Team India registered another monumental victory in the ongoing World Cup as they outplayed South Africa to keep their unbeaten streak alive. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided an excellent start to the Indian side while Virat Kohli's historic 49th ODI century paved the path for India's staggering total of 326.

The Indian bowlers were quick to get off the block as they left South Africa punchdrunk with an early flurry of wickets from which the Proteas never really recovered. Ravindra Jadeja's fifer, apart from another impressive display from Mohammed Shami got the job done comfortably enough for the Men in Blue. Here's a quick look at the top three Indian performers against South Africa at Eden Gardens.

1. Virat Kohli - 101* (121)

India's heartthrob, Virat Kohli showed the world once again why he is deemed as one of most special batters of all time as he equalled Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record of 49 ODI centuries. The feat was racked up by knocking a ball from Kagiso Rabada onto the off-side in the 49th over of the innings. If the century was a culmination of the legend's historic innings, the shots that he played during his stay in the center coupled with his razor-sharp focus and his ice-cool temperament, were a blazing testimony to his greatness. He smashed 10 fours during his remarkable century that proved to be a major pillar of India's mammoth total against the Rainbow Nation.

2. Shreyas Iyer - 77 (87)

Iyer scored his second half-century on the trot as he smashed the Proteas bowlers to every single nook and cranny of the park. Coming out to bat when India lost Shubman Gill and fears of the Proteas leaving the Men in Blue somewhat rattled just kicking in, Shreyas did an excellent job of keeping the South Africans at bay before firing on all cylinders. He smashed seven fours and two sixes during his stay at the center and knitted together another crucial partnership in India's middle-order.

3. Ravindra Jadeja - 5/33

After the initial blow dealt by the fast bowlers, the spinners got into the act for India as Ravindra Jadeja was the leading tormentor for the Proteas. He started his haul with the South African captain, Temba Bavuma as he spun a delivery around his bat’s edge that went on to kiss his off-stump. He struck again in quick succession, removing the likes of Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller in short time. He finished his haul for the day with the wickets of Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada.
