Virat Kohli reminisces Rohit Sharma's special celebration against Pakistan

Virat Kohli has always been someone who has worn his heart on his sleeve, whether on or off the pitch. More importantly, he has never minced his words with anyone and particularly when he is on the field, he ensures that his emotions are heard.

On another side, very rarely have we seen Indian skipper Rohit Sharma bursting into joy on the field. We have seen him being animated with his players and we have also seen his one-liners that have left fans in splits. However, in one such rare instance where Rohit saw no bounds while celebrating was back in 2022 where India braved Pakistan in the T20I World Cup and Virat Kohli put up a masterclass.

Kohli pulled off the unthinkable as he braved almost insurmountable odds to not only stabilize the Indian ship but take it across the finishing line. In that masterclass, there were hits that screamed elegance, one an almost impossible shot, straight down the ground over the head of Haris Rauf.

After India’s historic win against Pakistan, Rohit Sharma hugged Virat Kohli tightly, expressing relief and joy at India clinching a crucial win. He also lifted him in the air as an expression of unbridled joy. In a candid interview with Star Sports after India’s humdinger win against South Africa at Eden Gardens, Virat walked down the memory lane, revealing the heartwarming celebrations of Rohit Sharma. Talking to Star Sports, Virat said, “I have played with Rohit for a long time but I have not seen him express so much.”

Shedding a bit of light on the match-up, Kohli recalled, “There was no extra preparation to face them because over the years you are used to 140, 145, 150 kmph bowling. The only thing you need to do is to get into a mental space and get ready for the challenge.”

He concluded by talking about a very crucial juncture in Indian cricket when they suffered their only defeat against Pakistan in the history of the World Cup, stating, “The defeat against Pakistan in 2021 never came to my mind (in 2022). Considering the big human error factor involved in sport, there is no guarantee that on a given day you will win. We were winning against Pakistan all those years but on that day, they outplayed us. There’s no shame in accepting that. It was a good reality check for everyone. We can’t play a match thinking we have to avenge a defeat in the past.”
