As Team India prepare for a gun challenge against South Africa with the Eden Gardens playing host to the clash of the two juggernauts, batters from both sides will play a crucial role in this important match-up. For India, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill have been in sensational touch with decent displays from the likes of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav also coming through.

South Africa also have a number of batters in form, a list led by Quinton de Kock, who is in dream touch while he will be accompanied by another free-firing Heinrich Klaasen apart from a resurgent van der Dussen and another stalwart in Aiden Markram. As the batters take the center-stage tomorrow, here is a walk down the memory lane where we bring to you the top-three Indian run scorers against South Africa in ODI World Cups.

1.    Sachin Tendulkar – 153 runs

Tendulkar has always been an unparalleled phenomenon and the Master Blaster hammered 153 runs from the three innings that he has played against South Africa, averaging 51 and scoring at a breezy rate of 95. He also had a century against the Proteas, with a 111-run knock to his name.

2.    Shikhar Dhawan – 145 runs

The southpaw has always been extremely expressive against the Rainbow Nation. Being a crucial part of the last two World Cup encounters between the two sides, Dhawan has hammered 145 runs at a strike rate of 91.77. He has a century against South Africa which till date remains to be the highest score by an Indian against the Proteas in an ODI World Cup (137).

3.    Rohit Sharma – 122 runs

Scoring against a very potent South African attack, Rohit Sharma hammered a match-winning century in 2019 that still remains his highest against the Proteas in a World Cup in the one inning he’s played against them at the global stage. He scored 122 at a strike rate of 81.33 that saw him hammering 13 fours and two sixes.
