Team India will be locking horns against South Africa in an absolutely roller-coaster encounter at the Eden Gardens on Sunday. Both the teams have been in sensational touch throughout the tournament and such has been the magnitude of the two teams showcasing their flair in the fray, a few experts are even deeming this contest as a virtual finale of the World Cup 2023.

With that being said, the bowlers for both the sides have been spearheading their respective units in pretty fine fashion. Mohammed Shami’s recent form will be a cause of bother for the Proteas but the way in which their fast-bowling unit spearheaded by the likes of Kagiso Rabada has fared, India won’t have it easy either. Before a ferocious battle of two intimidating bowling units hit the yard against each other, here’s a look at India’s top wicket-takers against South Africa in the ODI World Cups.

1.    Yuzvendra Chahal – 4 wickets

It came in the last match that these two teams played in at Southampton where Chahal ran roughshod through the experienced batting unit of the Proteas, clinching four crucial scalps. He pulled off the performance at an economy rate of 5.10 while registering a bowling average of 12.75.

2.    Ravichandran Ashwin – 3 wickets

In another crucial performance for the Men in Blue, Ravichandran Ashwin bagged three crucial wickets in India’s battle against South Africa in 2015 that left the Rainbow Nation bereft of ways to score against him. Ash registered them at an economy rate of 4.10 while producing a bowling average of 13.66.

3.    Harbhajan Singh – 3 wickets.

Harbhajan Singh too has a three-wicket haul to his name, but one that came in a losing cause in 2011 when South Africa pulled off a last-over win, eventually handing India a bit of jitters before they could finally roll their juggernaut without any hiccups till the Promised Land. Bhajji claimed three wickets at an economy rate of 5.88 while chronicling an average of 17.66.
