Top Indian performers against Sri Lanka ft Mohammed Shami and Virat Kohli

India chronicled their most dominant victory in the ongoing World Cup as they hammered their way through the Sri Lankan batting unit and brought home the laurels, also punching their ticket to the semi-finals. It was an all-round display from the Men in Blue which witnessed them derailing Sri Lanka in a lopsided encounter.

Ideally, post every match we have a story that picks the three best performers for India against the respective opposition. However, since there was a deluge of exceptional showdowns, this is going to be a pick of partnerships, both with the bat and the ball which would highlight the top performances of the game in the Indian threads.

1.    Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill

When India lost Rohit Sharma early in the game, there were frowns on the Indian fans’ faces. However, the arrival of Kohli to join Shubman Gill in the center calmed down the frayed nerves and they hunkered down to business without wasting a single second. Virat scored 88 from 94 balls while hammering 11 fours alongside Shubman Gill’s 92 from 92, as he smashed 11 fours and two sixes. The duo added 189 runs for the second wicket, providing the crucial platform for the grandstand finish which came mainly through Shreyas Iyer.

2.    Shreyas Iyer and the Indian lower order

Shreyas Iyer was definitely a lead name in the Indian middle-order last night, knitting together some serious brilliance that came at gun speed as he kept on smashing fours and sixes at will. He hammered three fours and four sixes as he scored 82 from just 56 balls. Talking about the company that he had, handy knocks from KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja eventually propelled India to 357 on the board.

3.    Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj

The two Indian pacers were in majestic touch against Sri Lanka as Mohammed Siraj got in the early steam, clinching three wickets for almost nothing on the board. With the ball moving as if it had a trail of wind behind it, Siraj simply landed them in the right areas and the rewards were palpable with him claiming an early three-fer. Adding to Siraj’s early brilliance, Shami got in on the act, derailing the remainder of the Sri Lankan team with another exciting display that saw him clinching a fifer as India registered a historic 302 run-win.
