Hardik Pandya ruled out of the World Cup; Prasidh Krishna named as his replacement
Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023 World Cup after failing to recover from a sprained ankle, an injury he picked up against Bangladesh.
Despite reports of him trying to actually get into the mix after resting for a handful of matches, ICC confirmed today morning that the all-rounder will take no further part in the global extravaganza.
In the statement made by ICC, it said, “Pandya hurt his left ankle while bowling during India's World Cup match against Bangladesh in Pune last month and it has now been confirmed that the 30-year-old has failed to recover in time to be a part of the rest of the campaign.”
The statement further said, “His place in India's squad will be taken by Prasidh Krishna, with the inexperienced fast bowler parachuted into the playing group after being approved by the tournament's Event Technical Committee on Saturday.”
Prasidh Krishna has so far been a part of only 19 ODIs out of which the most recent one came against Australia in the three-match series that was played just ahead of the World Cup. He claimed the crucial scalp of David Warner in that match-up at the expense of 45 runs from his nine overs.
