Top Indian performers against Netherlands ft KL Rahul
India enjoyed a fine outing in the last group stage fixture of World Cup 2023 as they outclassed Netherlands by a staggering margin of 160 runs with a collective display from both their batting and bowling unit. The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had a feisty start to the encounter while it was the duo of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul who propelled the Men in Blue to a grandstand finish.
The Indian bowlers were quick to get into the act as the pace duo of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah shared four wickets between them while the spinning duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav racked up identical numbers. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma took a scalp apiece to make it a clean sweep for the Indians as they registered a 9-0 dominion in the group stages. With a flurry of displays dictating the match-up between the two sides, here are the top three Indian performers from last night.
1. Shreyas Iyer – 128*
Iyer was in dream touch yesterday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as he peppered the Netherlands bowlers to the ropes while ensuring the fact that Team India had enough fuel in their tanks to keep things afloat. He stayed unbeaten for 128 and all of it came within just 94 balls that saw him clubbing 10 fours and five sixes. Scoring at a rate of 136.17, he proved to be pivotal in India’s fiery first innings.
2. KL Rahul – 102
Becoming the fastest Indian centurion in the history of the ICC ODI World Cup, KL Rahul was in intimidating shape last night. He scored his first half-century from 40 balls but from thereon, he went on to smash the next 52 runs from just 24 balls. Despite getting out on the penultimate delivery of the innings, Rahul registered another crucial century and en route to the triple figures, he rocked 11 fours and four sixes.
3. Rohit Sharma – 61 and 1 wicket
The Indian captain showcased his all-round brilliance against the Orange Army, hammering a brilliant 61 at the start of the innings while also claiming the all-important wicket of Teja Nidamanuru who scored a breezy half-century himself. Rohit smashed eight fours and two sixes up front to set up the platform perfectly for the Indians to rock the show later.
