To make consecutive finals isn't easy: Michael Clarke backs India and Rohit Sharma after defeat in WTC final

Rohit Sharma has been at the receiving end of some serious flak ever since India’s loss in the WTC final against Australia. It was the second consecutive appearance in the WTC final for the Indians after a defeat in the maiden edition of the tournament’s summit clash where New Zealand got the better of them.

It wasn’t just Rohit’s captaincy that was questioned but his flair as a batter was also criticized after he got out for 15 in the first innings and 43 in the second. This has been a bit of an extension of Rohit Sharma’s lean numbers in the international arcade but then again knowing the caliber he possesses, former Australian skipper, Michael Clarke backed him to come good in the upcoming days.

Clarke also highlighted why Rohit Sharma makes an amazing captain for the Indian cricket team. Talking to Revsports, Clarke said, “Since taking over as captain he has won a Test series against Australia at home. He has done well as a batter as well. Think of his hundred in the last series. Losing a one off final doesn't make him a bad captain and nor does it make India a bad team. To make consecutive finals isn't easy. What it means is that India was the only team to play consistently well over a period of four years. To do so in Test cricket is commendable and I would urge you to look at that as well before making any kind of judgment call.”

He further added, “Just because India didn’t win the Test World Championship doesn’t mean Rohit is not the right guy to lead India. The fact that India qualified again, they are the only team to make consecutive finals, says a lot about how they have played their Test cricket over the past four years. It is also a very important time for stability with the One Day World Cup right around the corner."

Clarke continued, “Like I said to you, I would be keeping faith in Rohit. Since taking over as captain, he has won you a Test series against Australia at home. He has done well as a batter as well. Think of his hundred in the last series.”
