Wanindu Hasaranga was in prime form in Sri Lanka’s opening encounter of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers, running through UAE’s batting unit to bring up his best-ever ODI figures (8-1-24-6).
Set a target of 356 to get, UAE were chugging along at 82/1 after 16 overs before Hasaranga removed the dangerous Muhammad Waseem, a wicket that was followed by a flurry of dismissals.
From 82/2, UAE crumbled to 180/10, with Hasaranga manifesting as the chief destroyer for Sri Lanka, bringing all his experience and guile into play which was too much to handle for the batters.
Hasaranga used his googly to stunning effect, with the UAE batters struggling to put bat to ball, highlighted by five out of six wickets ending up as either LBW or bowled.
