The only person who genuinely reached out to me was MS Dhoni: Virat Kohli
Team India has been riding high on some impressive displays from the starry duo of Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli. Coming into the T20 World Cup, Kohli strung together a handful of impressive displays in the Asia Cup that also starred his 71st international century.
However, even a few months back when Virat Kohli struggled to get those runs, he received heavy flak from all corners of the planet. Kohli revealed that it was MS Dhoni who texted him during that phase, sharing an important message for which he would always be grateful to the former Indian skipper.
Divulging that text sent by MS Dhoni, Virat said, “The only person who genuinely reached out to me was MS Dhoni. For me, that is such a blessing to know that I could have such a strong bond and relationship with someone who is so senior to me. It's more like a friendship based on a lot of mutual respect, and that's one of the things he mentioned in the same message reaching out to me. It was, 'when you are expected to be strong and looked at as a strong individual, people forget to ask you how you are doing.’”
He further added, “It hit home to me. I was like, 'this is it'. I have always been looked at like someone who is very confident, very mentally strong, who can endure any situation and circumstance, find a way and show us the way. Sometimes, what you realise is that at any given time, you really need to take a couple of steps back and understand how you are doing, how your well-being is.”
Kohli’s impressive form in the T20 World Cup is one of the major factors of Team India’s domination in the group stages, as they topped their cluster. They will be hoping for Kohli to deliver the required essentials when India meet England at Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
