It has been a dream run for the young Karnataka batsman in the domestic scene. He has cultivated the habit of scoring runs whenever he comes out to play. We will be decoding the progress of the teen prodigy, Devdutt Padikkal.

The Edappal-born cricketer has been making huge waves in the domestic circuit with the willow. The cricketing fraternity took notice of the 19-year-old’s skill-sets and the temperament that he possessed. He was drafted into the RCB squad at the 2019 IPL auction for a sum INR 20 Lakhs.

The 2019 season of IPL was all about gaining experience and motivation from the entire campaign for Devdutt. The post-IPL season was when his magical form began. Receiving the debut cap from his state-mate KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal started his campaign for Karnataka.

Devdutt's constructive knocks against well-oiled bowling units was a testimony to the fact that the youngster is fully-equipped at the domestic level. He scored his maiden ton against Saurashtra to steer Karnataka towards the next stage of the tournament. The ton which he scored against Saurashtra proved to be a huge boost for the youngster ahead of the big domestic season.

The Southpaw continued the purple patch for his side. The Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy was the avenue where everyone witnessed his dapper batting abilities. His great run continued to such an extent where he was the leading run-getter in both Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy.

In an exclusive with Devdutt who opened up about his batting strategy, “I (Devdutt Paddikal) a have set plans for each innings and I don’t let anything interfere and keep things simple and adapt to the situation as it comes because every game as a different situation and you have to adapt to it in a different way and tackle it in a different way.”

Devdutt Padikkal continues his purple patch

The Karnataka opener since August 2019 has compiled 2082 runs in 40 matches with an exceptional average of 52.05 in the Karnataka Premier League, Vijay Hazare Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy all combined. From his first-class and LIST-A experience, Devdutt could well bolster the RCB batting line-up and moreover prove to be the X-factor.
