The key point in our discussion was consistency: Mike Hesson explains RCB's retention strategy

RCB's Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson explained the franchise’s retention and releases at length in a video released on the official Youtube channel. Hesson highlighted the expectations that the franchise will be going into the tournament with and what are the potential factors that were taken into consideration while making a few tough calls.

Talking about the factors, Hesson said, “The key point in our discussion was consistency. Looking at our players, we wanted to identify the ones who were going to deliver consistently for us in the years to come. There was also another discussion about how we can get someone significantly better than what we have got.”

He further added, “We also wanted to trust the players who have done well for us. We believe in them too.” 

Under Mike Hesson's tenure as the Director of Cricket Operations and a brief stint as the Head coach, the team has successfully been a part of three play-offs in three consecutive seasons.

RCB let go of two star overseas players, Jason Behrendorff and Sherfane Rutherford, while also releasing the likes of Luvnith Sisodia, Aneeshwar Gautam and Chama Milind, ahead of the upcoming IPL auction for the 2023 season.
