For all of us, the main thing was to trust the majority of the squad: Faf du Plessis
The Royal Challengers Bangalore stuck to their core group for the upcoming edition of the IPL while letting go of only five players namely Jason Behrendorff, Sherfane Rutherford, Chama Milind, Aneeshwar Gautam and Luvnith Sisodia ahead of the 2023 IPL season.
RCB skipper, Faf du Plessis had a message for the team and the fans after being retained. Finishing the preceding year as the highest scorer for RCB, Faf's captaincy was also instrumental in helping the team reach the playoffs.
On RCB Bold Diaries, Faf said, “I want to thank you all for this opportunity, especially the RCB management for putting their faith in me to come back and lead RCB. It was a great honour for me to come there last year and captain the side.”
He further added, “It’s a great team that we had. I am very lucky but also looking forward to coming back over there, playing for the first time over there in front of the fans again and especially home fans, travelling right across India.”
Faf also spoke about his role in the retention process, stating, “It is a procedure where I had very little role to play in, with Hess and Sanjay in the management doing a great job. They looked at every angle and when they asked my five cents, I was so glad to see that we were all on the same page about consistency and backing the players being the best way to go about as they did a great auction last year by investing in some really good players.”
The skip further said, “For all of us, the main thing was to trust the majority of the squad for doing a good job last year and backing them to do an even better job next year. So, I am really looking forward to that and thank you so much. I will see you guys shortly.”
