The goal is absolutely to win the World Cup – Virat Kohli

Anticipations rise for Team India as Virat Kohli will be taking the yard in less than 24 hours. However, ahead of India’s upcoming clash against West Indies, Kohli made a major announcement. Talking to JioStar, former Indian captain clarified that next year’s ICC ODI World Cup in South Africa will be his last appearance in the quadrennial extravaganza.

Kohli said, “Also now, it's in foreign conditions. It takes a lot out of you. For me, it's the last World Cup I'm going to play for India. And that is my motivation. Like, you know, to leave everything out there.”

Highlighting the challenges of playing a 50-over World Cup, Virat said, “The intensity of a 50-over World Cup is greater than anything. Because now, it's about 10 games at a T20 level of intensity. But you are playing 2.5 T20 games in one day. And to maintain that intensity for 10 games in a big tournament and World Cup is a big deal.”

The man who has already been a part of two World Cup finals, one in 2011 which India won and the other in 2023 where they succumbed to Australia, also clarified the ultimate goal with which he will take the field.

Virat concluded by stating, “Of course, the goal is absolutely to win the World Cup. And whatever it takes, I'm absolutely ready.”
