The crowd gave us an extra 20 runs in the chase – Sophie Molineux on RCB-W’s win
Sophie Molineux made her RCB-W debut on a very special occasion as the team registered their maiden win of WPL 2024. With the momentum swinging from one team to the other continously, RCB-W walked away with the bragging rights on the last ball of the match after Sophie Molinex bowled an excellent final over.
With 11 needed from six, Molineux kept things really tight. Conceding just two off the first four balls, she got more than half of the job done for RCB. However, the fifth ball of the over was slightly off the mark as a length ball on middle and leg was dispatched to the ropes by Deepti Sharma, amplifying the stakes and thrills. Given Molineux’s experience in the international circuit, she kept her calm and just drilled one flatter away from Deepti’s extended reach. As RCB won the match by two runs, at the end of the contest, Sophie had a lot to say.
Talking about the match-up in a post-match interview, Sophie said, “It was pretty incredible today. The fans were amazing and they were so loud and to get over the line was special. The girls fought hard right till the end.”
On her wicket of Alyssa Healy, Molineux added, “I haven't seen a replay yet. A drag-down before that and Midge is a dangerous player and to get her out early was big for us.”
Stating further, the Australian said, “Especially in the second innings it was a rollercoaster, we thought we were in front, then they were in front. The crowd gave us an extra 20 runs in the chase. We have senior players who help us when it's tight with their calls.”
She concluded with a congratulatory note for Asha, adding, “Even better celebrations, I have never seen anything like that. She kept it simple and we are super pumped for her.”
