I'm not thinking about my 5 wickets – Asha Sobhana
It was a very special night for leg-spinner Asha Sobhana, who clinched a fifer to propel RCB-W to their first win of the WPL 2024 season as they edged past UP Warriorz on the last ball of the contest. She claimed a crucial five-wicket haul to derail the Warriorz innings, clinching the all-important scalps of Vrinda Dinesh, Tahlia McGrath, Shweta Sehrawat, Grace Harris and Kiran Navgire.
She claimed two wickets in the eighth over of the innings and sent the fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium into a febrile frenzy. However, she saved the best for the last when she came to bowl the 17th over, bagging three wickets to throw UP Warriorz completely off the trail of the run-chase.
Talking in the post match presentation after winning the Player of the Match award for her fifer, Asha said with tears in her eyes, “A lot of struggle and a lot of hard work. I'm not thinking about my 5 wickets, we won our first game at our home ground. Very happy that I contributed to the victory and that too at Chinnaswamy.”
She concluded by saying, “I knew the situation would be something like this and I visualised. I did a lot of homework. I saw Grace going against the turn, though if I pull the length back and across, I might get a top-edge or be bowled. I was ready to get smashed, but I was sure I would get them.”
