That match acted as the miracle outing for me: RCB star Mahipal Lomror on an incident during his early cricketing years
At the IPL 2022 auction, RCB opted to pick a relatively unheralded name in the IPL in the form of hard-hitting southpaw, Mahipal Lomror. The left-hander had fragmented bursts of brilliance for the Rajasthan Royals but somehow he was unable to knit them together in a sequence of extraordinary knocks that could get the Men in Pink to retain the youngster ahead of the mega-auction.
Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar already had their eyes on the upcoming star and they knew exactly how to get the best out of Lomror, who could wreak havoc if nurtured and unleashed at the right time. It took him a while to find a place in the starting XI but once the opportunity came knocking, he grabbed it with arms wide open and there was no looking back for the youngster.
On the latest episode of Bold Diaries, Lomror spoke about his early years in cricket, a special moment that changed the entire narrative for him which made him realise that he belongs in the field.
Lomror said, “I was selected for the U19 Indian team when I was 16 years old. It was the second match of the tournament and New Zealand was playing against us. In that match, I bagged a fifer and then went on to score a crucial 45 runs. That is the first time when I realized that I belong to this sport and I deserve to be at a higher altitude than where I am now.”
He further added, “There is a tipping point for every player in his career where he starts feeling that he should be pursuing the sport in a much more serious manner with added hunger in his belly. That was the match which acted as the miracle outing for me, boosting my confidence and eventually making me believe that I can do better than what I was doing.”
