That kind of aggressive attitude was something – Mitchell Johnson on Virat Kohli
Five days from now, India will be taking the yard for the most important series in the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship as they lock horns with Australia Down Under.
On the back of a 3-0 defeat against New Zealand, they will have to pull off a significant triumph against the mighty Aussies in the latter’s backyard and in order for India to put up a show like none other, Virat Kohli will be a driving force for the Indian cricket team.
In a column for The West Australian, Mitchell Johnson revealed how Virat Kohli’s positive attitude completely changed the game for India back in 2014 while underlining how the former Indian captain carried the entire team on his back and instilled a new set of attacking ethos in the side.
Johnson wrote, “One of Kohli’s attributes stood out early to me above all others – he was up for the fight. That kind of aggressive attitude was something we had rarely seen from an Indian player at that point. We were used to giving it but didn’t always get it back in return.”
He further added, “He took his team with him as well so it’s not an understatement to say that Kohli changed the face of Indian cricket, taking a new generation of players and showing them how to play tough cricket.”
India will be engaging in a fierce battle with Australia for a five-match series instead of the usual four-match bonanza that these two teams usually play in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The fate of the series can seal the fate of the two possible finalists of the upcoming WTC final.
