That could have been a moment where I could have changed history: Glenn Maxwell on his first half-century for his state

Glenn Maxwell has been a towering presence in the ranks of the Royal Challengers Bangalore ever since his arrival in the team, and he will play an imperative part for RCB come IPL 2023. Maxwell, though, recently suffered a freak accident that saw him fracture a leg and also snap off his synapse ligaments.

It was a challenging comeback but the Australian hard-hitter fought through intense pain and eventually, he has made a comeback into the Australian squad for the upcoming ODI series against India, a fair indicator of the fact that he is going to be a part of the upcoming IPL.

For any cricketer, initial games in the domestic circuit are always special and Glenn Maxwell is no exception to the same. Talking on the RCB Podcast Season 2, Maxwell, highlighted what cricket means to him and how it has remained identical from his wee days in cricket to what he has become now.

Talking about his first 50 in the domestic circuit where he hammered 61 off 27 balls for Victoria, Maxwell said, “That was a big moment and that was also my first fifty. I thought it was my first chance to win a game for my state. I think when I was batting, it was the first time that I started to show what I can do at that level. It seemed like a dominator’s attack. To get a team up and close to the finish line, I have dragged the team from needing 12 runs an over with only two wickets in hand, I brought down the equation to needing 18 off the last 2.”

He continued, “I was batting with Peter Siddle at the other end and I felt that I could get the job done all by myself.  I got out to a full-toss as I tried to hit it to a short boundary. It was a direct hit to the fielder. I felt like that was a moment lost to win a game properly and even though we ended up winning the game. It was just remarkable. Peter Siddle hit a couple of boundaries in the last two overs to win the tie. I felt that was where I could set myself up as a finisher and a consistent finisher. But in the end it only got close and I couldn’t finish the job. That could have been a moment where I could have changed history.”
