Sunil Gavaskar predicts 3-1 win for India against “ripe for the taking” Australia

As India brace themselves for another incredible outing Down Under where Australia await them for a five-match Test series at the end of this year, former Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar, opened up on India’s chances of a series win for the third straight time against the Aussies in their backyard.

Talking to Mid-Day, Sunil Gavaskar pointed out that the Indian team is in dream nick and with the kind of composition that they have currently, this makes them a very formidable side, no matter where they are playing. They have what it takes to beat the Australians again, even if it is in their backyard.

Gavaskar said, “With their opening batting problems exacerbated after the retirement of David Warner and the middle-order also a bit dodgy, the Aussies are ripe for the taking once again.”

He further added, “It’s going to be an exciting series for sure with the talent that is there on both sides and it will also show why Test match cricket is the ultimate format of our beloved game. Oh, and my prediction is a 3-1 win for India."

With all the confidence that Gavaskar talked about, he also added a pinch of salt to his statement, underlining the fact that the lack of warm-up matches can be a factor for Rohit Sharma and company when they arrive in Australia.

He stated, “India being the usual slow starters in an overseas series in SENA countries the first Test will be crucial. That they aren't playing proper first-class games before that as well as in the week-long gaps between some Test matches could work against them."
