Sumit Antil carved another masterclass in the Paralympics as he defended his Tokyo gold with verve, vim and vigour in Paris. In fact, he toppled his own Games record to clinch the ace on Monday, hurling the javelin to a staggering 70.59m in his second attempt which won him the gold.

Antil impressed in his very first throw, launching a momentous 69.11m on his very first attempt - which broke his own Paralympics record of 68.55 from the Tokyo Paralympics - and then went past the feat with the record-toppling throw of 70.59 that was the golden launch. He made no relent whatsoever as even in his third throw he registered a distance of 66.66m.

Sri Lanka’s Dulan Kodithuwakku secured the Silver medal with a throw of 67.03 while Aussie-Czech athlete, Michael Burian clinched Bronze with a distance of 64.89m.

Antil became the second Indian athlete following shooter Avani Lekhara to successfully defend a Paralympics Gold medal.
