India landed their 16th medal in the ongoing Paralympics and it came through sprinter Deepthi Jeevanji. The towering Jeevanji was a part of the Women’s 400m T20 in the Paris Paralympics.

Jeevanji completed her race in 55.82 seconds on Tuesday, finishing behind the eventual champion, Yuliia Shuliar of Ukraine, who clocked 55.16 seconds while world record holder, Aysel Onder from Turkey, bagged silver with a timing of 55.23.

Deepthi became the second Indian to clinch a medal in the track and field category at the Paralympics. Preethi Pal, only a few days ago, won Bronze in the women’s 100m and 200m T35 events, becoming the first Indian woman para-athlete to clinch multiple medals in the Para Games.

As India’s current medal tally stands at the time of writing this piece, the numbers read 16 medals overall with three gold, five silver and eight bronze in the ongoing edition.
