Stokes is the same: Eoin Morgan compares Virat Kohli to current England Test captain

One of the finest captains to have taken over the reins of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli ushered the Men in Blue to new heights under his reign. However, much to the shock of the Indian cricket fraternity, Kohli stepped down as India’s Test captain after an away series defeat against South Africa. Rohit Sharma was named captain as Kohli’s successor, and despite India making the final of the World Test Championship Final, yet another ICC trophy eluded the team.

After the WTC Final, former England skipper Eoin Morgan made a massive remark about Kohli’s captaincy days.

In a chat with the Mirror, Eoin Morgan said, “Test cricket for me is still unbelievable. But it is a really challenging time for it. It has lost Virat Kohli as a Test captain and he always spoke vividly about how much he loved it and was passionate about it."

Comparing Kohli with Stokes, Morgan said, “Stokes is the same, and he has taken on a huge responsibility to the game to make it as attractive as possible.”

With the Ashes coming up in a few days time, Morgan also shed light on how much he’d have loved to feature in the competition. Talking about an opportunity to play in the Ashes, the Englishman said, “I would have given my left arm to play in the Ashes. I went on the 2010/11 tour as the spare batter, but we had such a strong batting line-up.”

He further added, “Every time I had an opportunity against the Aussies particularly in 50-over cricket. I would go “well, this is the closest I'm getting to playing an Ashes against these guys. If that is where I want to be, then I need to do well here to start with.”
