As India steamrolled South Africa in Vizag to pocket the ODI series, there were a flurry of records that were registered along the way. From Yashasvi Jaiswal’s sensational century to India’s dominant chase, we had heaps of milestones coming along. Here’s a quick glance at the records created or broken in India’s dominant showdown at Vizag.

·      India’s chase of 271 is the second-highest successful chase registered by the Men in Blue in ODIs by losing just one wicket. The highest is 360 which came against Australia in Jaipur in 2013.

·      India’s nine-wicket victory is their joint biggest win against the Proteas. They conjured a similar feat back in 2018 in Centurion.

·      The Men in Blue managed to register their first-ever consecutive bilateral ODI series wins against South Africa. This was the third consecutive triumph in ODIs for India, with the last two coming in 2022 and 2023 by a similar margin.

·      Yashasvi Jaiswal became the sixth Indian batter to score a century in all three formats. Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were the others to achieve this feat.

·      Virat Kohli smashed 12 sixes in the series which is the highest by him in an ODI series or tournament. The previous record was of nine sixes which came against Sri Lanka in 2023 and also the 2023 World Cup.

·      The 155-run stand between Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal is the second-highest partnership for India against South Africa in ODIs. The highest still stands between Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar which came in Johannesburg in 2001.

·      Rohit Sharma moved to a tally of 5013 runs on India soil and only became the fifth batter to do so. Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis were the others to pull off this feat earlier.

·      Kuldeep Yadav went past Anil Kumble in terms of registering four-fers in ODI bilaterals. Five of those 11 four-wicket hauls came against South Africa.
