Social media does not matter one bit – Gautam Gambhir’s hard-hitting take on KL Rahul
KL Rahul has been under serious pressure after missing out on putting up big scores in recent times. Despite a brilliant half-century against Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test, he hasn’t really conjured the glory run that he is known for, hurting his own cause and potentially a spot in the India XI. However, Indian coach Gautam Gambhir made it very clear that the ace middle-order batter will continue to get the support of the Indian management as they have a plan in place for him.
When asked about the frenzy against Rahul on social media, Gautam Gambhir told the reporters in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Pune Test, “Social media does not matter one bit. What the team management and leadership group thinks is very important. He is batting really well, had a decent knock in Kanpur (against Bangladesh on a difficult wicket).”
He further added, “I am sure he would be knowing that he has to score big runs and he has capability of scoring runs. That's why he has been backed by the team...Ultimately, everyone is judged. International cricket is all about being judged.”
With India set to take on New Zealand in the second Test at Pune on October 24th, time will tell if Rahul does justice to the spot given to him in the middle-order.
