So close yet so far for RCB Women as Delhi Capitals clinch a final over win
There are times when no matter how much effort you put in, fortune doesn’t go your way and believe this or not but that is reality and you just have to accept it and move forth. In one such heart-wrenching story, last night, the Royal Challengers tried everything they could but it was simply not to be as Jess Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp seized a final-over win to leave the RCB Women still scrambling for a point.
It was a far better display than what has so far been the case for the Challengers as two of their star names came to the party, bringing out the big guns just when it was required. Batting first, RCB lost their captain, Smriti Mandhana, early in the innings as she tried to pull away a shorter delivery from Shikha Pandey.
However, Ellyse Perry continued with her good form and took on the Delhi bowlers despite the regular fall of wickets at the other end. By the time RCB was wobbling at 63/3, Richa Ghosh bagged herself a promotion and smashed her way around in her signature fashion, pairing perfectly with the Aussie all-rounder.
The duo piled up 74 runs for the 4th wicket from just 34 balls as Ghosh whacked 37 from just 16, smoking 3 fours and 3 sixes while Perry continued on her merry run with an important unbeaten 52-ball 67. RCB managed to pile up 150 on the cards which ensured that this contest was far from over.
The Royal Challengers had a couple of early breakthroughs in the form of Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning as Megan Schutt claimed the Indian opener while the Aussie stalwart fell to Asha Shobana. Despite the early infringements, Delhi managed to stabilize the ship through the reliable hands of Alice Capsey and Jemimah Rodriguez as they motored the innings with decent momentum.
However, Preeti Bose and Asha Shobana struck in quick succession to bring RCB back in the game and after some pulsating oscillation of the momentum, it would eventually be the Delhi Capitals who would have the last laugh as Jess Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp sealed the tie for Delhi, leaving RCB with a bitter feeling as the equation remained so close yet so far for them.
