From Ellyse Perry to Richa Ghosh: Top Performers for RCB against DC
It is the first season of WPL and not one of the most remarkable ones for the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women as they are yet to register a victory in Wpl 2023. They came the closest to the finish line in yesterday’s contest against the Delhi Capitals but once again they had to finish on a losing note after Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen held their nerves to help the Meg Lanning-led side secure a victory.
Despite the result, there were a lot of positives that RCB can take heart from and there were new architects joining the groove alongside familiar faces. Here are the top three performers for RCB against DC:
Ellyse Perry – 67* (52)
One of the world’s best all-rounders, Ellyse Perry continued on her rich vein of form, smashing an innings-defining knock where she managed to bag her second consecutive half-century and the knock was filled with panache and a handful of exquisite strikes. She came out to bat at No.3 and steered the ship along amidst those early jitters and then came out all guns blazing alongside Richa Ghosh, staying unbeaten for 67, a knock that comprised of 4 fours and 5 sixes.
Richa Ghosh – 37 (16)
The effervescent Richa Ghosh seemed to be back in touch as she knitted together a blitzkrieg that left the bowlers scrambling for a fire blanket as it rained boundaries at Dr. DY Patil Stadium. The Indian wicket-keeper hammered 3 fours and 3 sixes during her short stay in the centre and it was on the back of her tempest that RCB managed to reach 150 after a tardy start.
Asha Sobhana – 2 for 27
Leg-spinner Asha Sobhana chipped in with a crucial spell that saw her bagging the all-important scalp of Meg Lanning up front, allowing RCB to hope for a win. Sobhana didn’t stop after Lanning’s wicket as she deceived Jemimah Rodrigues for flight, forcing a top edge off the DC batter’s bat that was pouched by Ghosh. She was also pretty economical, conceding only 27 runs from her 4 overs, setting up for the cracker of a finish that unfortunately tilted in DC’s favour in the end.
