Shikhar Dhawan picks Suryakumar Yadav as India’s No.4 for the upcoming ODI World Cup
Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan made an intriguing remark about India’s middle-order as the World Cup comes closer. A lot of speculations have been revolving around whether India would be able to get the likes of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul fit ahead of the quadrennial extravaganza followed by the most important question - if they fail to recover, who’s next in the queue?
The recently concluded India vs West Indies ODI series didn’t really go well for Surya, and as per his own admission, his numbers have been nothing to drive home about. However, Dhawan believes that he can still be India’s best choice at number four if Rahul and Iyer don't make the cut.
Talking to PTI, Dhawan said, “I would go with Surya at four as he is an experienced player and has been playing international cricket for a while.”
The southpaw further spoke about Shubman Gill, adding, “Also, really looking forward to see how Shubman Gill does in the World Cup. Another batter to watch out for will be Rohit Sharma as he did exceptionally well in the last World Cup. We have got a very good side which has the right blend of experience and youth. We will have the home advantage. We know the grounds and pitches and that is going to come in very handy.”
Only time shall reveal if Suryakumar does slot in seamlessly into the middle order to make up for the deficiency caused by the potential absence of Rahul and Iyer.
