Sanju Samson played a belter of an innings in India's final Super Eight contest against the West Indies, his unbeaten 97 propelling India to a phenomenal win. Ahead of India’s semi-final clash with England, India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, opened up about Samson’s hard work and his eagerness to perform whenever he gets a chance.

Talking about Sanju Samson at the pre-match press conference, Morkel said, “There was not a lot of conversation. He’s a guy who always works hard at the nets. In professional sports, it’s all about staying ready, so you don’t have to get yourself ready. He kept calm and fought through that tough little period.”

Morkel also opened up on Abhishek Sharma’s lean patch, highlighting the fact that this is a phase that all cricketers go through. Morkel said, “Sometimes this game can be hard on you, cruel on you. It’s good growth for him. It’s a fresh page for him tomorrow. He’s starting on zero.”

Sharma scored an important half-century against Zimbabwe in the Super Eights and will be hopeful of scoring runs again when India clash with England in the semi-finals. The Men in Blue will also want to see Samson carve another masterpiece against a competitive bowling attack.
