Sachin Tendulkar would be the happiest if Virat Kohli broke his record: Saba Karim
Ever since his debut in 2008, Virat Kohli has been involved in multiple record-shattering feats. Among the current crop of batters, he has become worthy of being known as one of the very few ones who could come within touching distance of Sachin’s hundred international tons.
Obviously, records that took decades to be built hold utmost value throughout the world. However, as the famous English maxim goes that records are meant to be broken. Former Indian selector, Saba Karim believes that if someone is truly deserving of rattling Sachin’s records, it’s Virat Kohli, and if the records are actually broken, he will be happy if that comes from the bat of the former RCB Skipper.
In an interaction with News Sports after India’s series opener against Sri Lanka, Saba Karim said, “Sachin Tendulkar would be the happiest if Virat Kohli broke his record of scoring the most ODI centuries. With the kind of form that he is in, I think he is going to break that record very soon.”
He further added, “I don't think Kohli is playing for records at the moment. He aims to win the World Cup for Team India and is completely focused on that.” In fact, it wasn’t just Saba Karim who added his valuable words to this debate but former Indian captain and BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly also made a huge remark about Virat Kohli’s greatness, underlining his worth of becoming the one who can actually own this record.
Former Indian skipper, and one half of the famous Sachin-Sourav opening pair, Sourav Ganguly said, “It's a difficult question to answer. Kohli is a fantastic player. He's played many such innings, 45 hundreds don't happen like this. He's a special talent. There will be periods when he will not score, but he's a special player.”
