Rohit Sharma will need to use his bowlers cleverly – Sunil Gavaskar
India will be squaring off against England in the upcoming five-match Test series which will be crucial in shaping up the fate of the World Test Championship path for both the sides. Rohit Sharma and company will have their task cut out as England have presented sizeable challenges to other nations away from home. Even though they have a considerable number of young names on the team list, yet, you can never write the Three Lions off.
Former Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar, believes that the Indian skipper will play a key role in plotting England’s downfall, particularly with the opening contest slated to be played in Hyderabad.
Talking to Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “Rohit, the batter, the manner in which he batted in the Chennai Test, he hit a hundred, and it was a very good hundred. He showed how to bat on spin-friendly pitches. If he continues to bat that way, India will definitely get a good start. And it can make No.3 and No. 4 batters' lives easily.”
He further said, “As captain, Rohit Sharma will need to use his bowlers cleverly. Usually in Hyderabad, there is not enough turn on offer, so if England bats first and make a successful start till lunch, there we’ve to see how he uses his bowlers to judge him.”
Rohit’s numbers with the bat against England though have been sensational at home. In the nine home Test matches that Rohit has played against England, he has scored 747 runs at an average of 49.80. He is going to be a key element when the formidable English visitors eye a series conquest in the Indian subcontinent.
