Captaining India was the utmost honour – Jasprit Bumrah

As India gear up for the mighty England challenge in the upcoming five-match Test series, the Indian seamers, who have been bang on their money away from home will also be hopeful of making a key impact in dishing out a chilly welcome to the Three Lions. Jasprit Bumrah will be spearheading the fast bowling union for India, with Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan for company.

Bumrah, who is the vice-captain of the side, expressed his desire to be the full-time captain of the Indian team, in an interview with The Guardian. The pacer was in fine touch in the recent tour of South Africa, where he picked up 12 wickets from just three innings, at an average of just 12.91.

Ahead of the England Test series, Bumrah, who has captained India in one Test, said, “I did one game and it was the utmost honour. Playing Test cricket is great, captaining was even better. Yes, we lost but we were ahead in the match and I loved the responsibility. Sometimes as a fast bowler you go down to fine leg and switch off but I loved being involved in every decision, right in the thick of things. And given the opportunity, of course, who wouldn’t?"

It further added, “(Cummins) plays for Australia, the number of matches differs and that kind of thing. Not many [seamers] have done it before. But it’s a good example that yes, fast bowlers are the smart ones, they do a hard job and they know what to do around the game.”
