Roger Binny sets his priorities straight on day one as the president of the BCCI
Former member of the 1983 World Cup winning squad, Roger Binny was elected as the President of the Board of control for cricket in India to succeed outgoing Sourav Ganguly. Taking over such a prestigious position, he made his agenda clear on the very first day.
The first and foremost pointer on Binny’s long list of promises was to get to the root cause of so many injuries that the Indian cricketers have suffered of late and find a way around them, especially in these testing times where the amount of cricket played is a lot more.
In an informal chat with the members of the media, Binny said, “We will look to improve on what we can do to reduce the injuries to players. Players getting frequently injured is a concern, and we wish to get to the bottom of it all and see how it can be changed for the better.”
He further added, “We have excellent doctors and trainers at the National Cricket Academy [in Bengaluru], but we must look to reduce the injuries and improve recovery."
Not only did the new BCCI president talk about improving the injury record, but he also underlined the requirement for quality pitches in domestic cricket. “There needs to be more life in the wickets at home so that our teams would not have the problem of adjusting when travelling abroad - like in Australia, where there is more pace and bounce," he said.
Roger Binny is just the third cricketer who has captained India to become the president of the apex cricketing authority of India after the Maharajah of Vizianagram and Sourav Ganguly.
