Much to the woes of the Melbourne Renegades, they will have to make do without the starry likes of Harmanpreet Kaur for the ongoing edition of the WBBL as the Indian captain has sustained a back injury.

Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded the Player of the Season in the last year’s edition of the WBBL with staggering exploits of 406 runs at a stunning strike rate of 130.96 alongside a haul of 15 wickets from the 13 games that she was a part of.

Renegades’ general manager, James Rosengarten opened up with a heavy heart, saying, “Harmanpreet was fantastic for us last season and we were looking forward to having her as part of our squad again this year, but unfortunately she has been ruled out through injury.”

Going by the initial plans, the Indian captain was supposed to join the franchise after the first couple of matches as she was stationed in Bangladesh, repping Team India in the Asia Cup, leading them to the continental crown. England batter Eve Jones was signed up as an overseas replacement for Kaur.

It wasn’t just Harmanpreet who was sidelined from this year’s tournament but star Indian batter, Smriti Mandhana pulled out of the latest edition of this fray to manage her workload.
