Rishabh Pant jumps to fifth position in the ICC Test batting rankings
Rishabh Pant and Jonny Bairstow's dream run at Edgbaston helped them crack new positions in the latest edition of the ICC Test rankings. The Indian wicket-keeper batter grabbed the fifth spot in the ICC Test rankings while Bairstow bagged the tenth spot after centuries in both the innings of the fifth Test.
Joe Root continued his song at the ace of the pecking order but this time with the highest points that he has ever managed to garner in his prolonged Test career with 923 next to his name. Bairstow’s century in the second innings made it three tons for the English biffer from four Tests, a feat that was instrumental in improving his rankings.
Rishabh Pant pulled off a herculean showdown with the blade in the recently concluded Test match against England as he blasted a phenomenal century in the first innings and backed it up with a quickfire half-century in the second.
He was in the eleventh position previously but his valiant showdown against the English bowlers got him going. Joe Root kept the zenith for himself, while he was followed by Marnus Labuschagne in the second with 879 points and Steven Smith at the third position with 826 points. Babar Azam grabbed the fourth position of the points table while Rishabh Pant was promoted to the fifth.
