BCCI, on Friday, named the Indian women’s squad for the upcoming Asian Games, the declaration for which came a week ago. It is a full-scale Indian women's side that would be challenging for the continental crown in the Games after a fair run in recent times.

A 20-member squad has been announced that is also inclusive of five stand-by players for the Asian Games 2023 which is going to be held in Hangzhou, the Republic of China in September and October.

Harmanpreet Kaur will be leading the Indian team while RCB skipper, Smriti Mandhana, has been named as the vice-captain of the side. Richa Ghosh makes a comeback into the national side after being overlooked for the Bangladesh series, while dashing southpaw Kanika Ahuja has also been included in the side.

The women’s cricket event at the Asian Games 2023 will be played in T20 format, replicating the successful showdown of cricket in the 2022 Commonwealth Games where the Indian women lost to Australia in the finale to clinch the silver medal.

The cricket tournament in the Games will be played between September 19-28th while all the matches will be played at Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field. This is for the first time that India is sending both their men’s and women’s team for the Asian Games cricket competition.
