The Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 ended on Sunday after a cracker of a display from Australia that saw them secure the trophy, thumping South Africa in the grand finale. South Africa put in a staunch shift in the final hurdle but the effort was simply not enough to dismantle the Australian dynasty.

India and England were the other two teams which faced off against Australia and South Africa respectively in the semifinals, and despite a flurry of impressive displays, they failed to qualify for the summit clash. Yet, all four teams that reached the penultimate round of the tournament had player representations in the recently announced Most Valuable Team of the Tournament for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Australia and South Africa shared 7 spots, with 4 Australian players making the cut and 3 from the host nation. Two England players featured in the XI, with West Indies’ Karishma Ramharack also sealing a spot with her impressive performances. Upcoming Irish star Orla Prendergast, who made a name for herself with bat and ball was named as the squad’s 12th player.

India’s wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh was the only Indian cricketer to be named as a part of the prized XI. Not only did she find her stride with the willow in her hand as she fired 136 runs at a stunning average of 68 and a strike rate of 130+, but she also inflicted seven dismissals, including five catches and two stumpings.

Richa was not the only RCB player to make the cut though, as champion pacer Megan Schutt was also named in the T20 World Cup team of the tournament. The Australian pacer bagged 10 wickets in the tournament at an economy rate of just 6.13. Schutt’s best figures of 4/24 came against Sri Lanka, and she took the all-important wicket of the well-set Laura Wolvaardt in the final to propel Australia to the title.

T20 World Cup 2023 team of the tournament: Tazmin Brits, Alyssa Healy, Laura Wolvaardt, Nat Sciver-Brunt (C), Ashleigh Gardner, Richa Ghosh, Sophie Ecclestone, Karishma Ramharack, Shabnim Ismail, Darcie Brown, Megan Schutt, Orla Prendergast (12th player)
