The RCB women took over the Chinnaswamy Stadium for their practice sessions ahead of the inaugural season of the WPL, which begins on March 4th in Mumbai. With less than a week to go before the commencement of the season, a few of RCB’s foreign imports, namely Dane van Niekerk and Erin Burns, joined the domestic players for the training camp.

RCB Women’s fielding coach and scout, Vanitha VR who happens to be a former Indian player, opened up on how it feels to return to the Chinnaswamy. Talking on RCB Bold Diaries, Vanitha said, “The first thing that comes to my mind is that I played for the Karnataka team as well. I was also a part of the Indian cricket team too. Another interesting thing was that we had a home series between India and New Zealand. In fact, for the first time, we had a ball girl too and it all started here at the Chinnaswamy.”

She further added, “This crowd is really special and it has a very special place in my heart. With all the starts, our practice session that has started here, I think that is a very good sign for us and for myself as well.”

Talking about the team, Vanitha said, “The girls are very excited. In fact the very first day we met, it never looked like we were meeting here for the first time. With the overseas players coming in, it never felt like the girls were feeling uncomfortable. The atmosphere here is really great. Especially the Karnataka girls are very comfortable with the overseas players. So we as a team always wanted to have this atmosphere, the culture and the atmosphere here. Everything is going well as of now.”
