RCB Bold Diaries: Our best cricket is absolutely in front of us – Luke Williams

A second consecutive defeat in the ongoing WPL forced RCB-W to the fourth spot on the points table. A shaky start from the top-order cost the women in Red and Gold dearly and despite a late flourish from Ellyse Perry, the 132-run target set for MI was a little too easy for the visitors in the end.

In the latest video of RCB Bold Diaries, the players and the coach talked at length about the contest, the pointers that impinged the game while also highlighting Ellyse Perry’s valiant battle which kept RCB-W afloat on a lacklustre day in office.

Coach Luke Williams said, “Really tough night. All of us, self-included should be really disappointed. We didn’t execute anywhere near the level of what we’re capable of. We have got a couple of days now to really have a good think with what we need as a group and also individually to come back stronger in a couple of night’s time.”

Adding further, Luke said, “These are the moments where teams stick together. All of us need to support each other, help each other to find that best version of ourselves and what that looks like for different people, as I said, whether it’s practice or conversations or space. Everyone's a little bit different with what they need. The better we can understand, have the conversations and prepare in a couple of days’ time, the better off we will be.”

He continued, “Our best cricket is absolutely in front of us. I think it’s going to get down to our character and our belief in each other, our support for each other and our ability to reflect and actually have a think about. We’ve played everyone once now. Now we’re able to have a good think about the things that we have done well, things that we can improve on.”

Luke also added, “There’s different plans that are starting to be implemented against each player at different times and those sorts of things. There is now some information that we can really use with how we need to play and what we’ve done well and what we haven’t.”

He concluded by saying, “Nothing has changed from what I said before jumping onto the bus. It’s very much about us where we were miles off tonight about what we are capable of. That’s on us, I reckon. We can reflect hard, stick together and come back stronger. I have no doubt that our best cricket is going to challenge every other team in the competition. It’s really important that we keep our heads up, we walk out as a team, we jump on the bus, we look forward to helping each other or supporting each other to be better. I’m looking forward to the next game coming around and I reckon we’re going to take these two days and we’re going to bounce back really strong on Monday against UP.”
