RCB Bold Diaries – Josh Hazlewood highlights the treacherous mazes of death bowling
In the ever-shifting maze of the IPL, death bowlers have become a crucial part of the set-up. From keeping the batters silent to getting those all-important wickets at the right time, death bowlers set a very special trend. Josh Hazlewood has been one of the key elements for RCB and one of the most experienced campaigners in the Red, Blue and Gold echelons when it comes to death bowling.
Talking on the latest RCB Bold Diaries video, Hoff revealed what makes death bowling pretty complicated. He also revealed how a bowler might approach the particular set of overs while dropping a reference of remarkability, underlining the sheer genius of Indian pace ace, Jasprit Bumrah.
Hoff said, “I think death bowling is obviously very tough and there’s not many people who can do it. I don’t see myself as an expert, that’s for sure. You got guys who skin the cat in different ways. Guys like Bumrah who have got a great yorker or a great slow ball, can rely on that their skills are so good. I think for me yorker is probably one but it’s more trying to read the batsman and try and keep one step ahead of him. I think that’s probably the key.”
He further added, “It is whether through setting your fields or through bluffing, bowling against your fields, it is always that staying one step ahead of the batsman and ahead of his mindset and make him try and predict what’s going to happen the next ball. It makes your life a lot easier. I feel if you are one step behind, playing catch-up, it’s a tough spot to be in.”
