RCB Bold Diaries: Ellyse Perry opens up on what it feels like to be a part of the RCB family
The Royal Challengers Bangalore Women have struggled to get off their mark as they have frequently stumbled and are stationed at the nadir of the points table with the prized victory still eluding them. However, if there has been one name that has still shined like the blazing lodestar in an otherwise murky sky for the Challengers, it has been none other than Ellyse “Pez” Perry.
Currently leading the run-scoring charts for the Royal Challengers Women with 195 runs, Perry has been a crucial element of the RCB batting line-up, ushering them to warring totals on the cards. She has also become the first RCB woman to smash two consecutive half-centuries, storming headlong into the elite list of the 6 players who have got more than one fifty in the inaugural edition of the tournament. She opened up at length on the latest episode of the RCB Bold Diaries about her ambitions, what it feels like to be a part of the maiden edition of the tournament and most importantly what it is like to be a part of RCB.
Talking about what WPL feels like, Ellyse said, “It’s been very special. I guess just being a part of any competition like this is absolutely amazing but then being a part of the Indian domestic competition, and just the scale the game has reached as a result of the WPL, it is so cool to play out the first year and knowing about the potential and possibility of where this competition is going to go.”
She further added, “It simply adds on to the fact that being on the ground and being a part of the first teams of the first year, particularly at RCB which is such an amazing franchise, has been awesome.”
Ellyse then shifted her focus on the fans, stating, “The fans are amazing. You know we have just played in Mumbai and have so many people come down and support the team and it has been absolutely wonderful. I was actually at the first-ever men’s IPL game which was RCB versus the Kolkata Knight Riders and even then the passion and the energy that was coming out of the Chinnaswamy Stadium that night when we got to watch that game was incredible. Ever since, for the last 15 years, RCB has been an important part of Indian cricket.”
Adding more to her previous statement, she further said, “Now that there is a women’s team for the RCB, to feel that passion, to feel the shift of all the fans’ support to the RCB Women’s team as well in the same way they support the men’s team, yeah it is extremely special.”
