Ravichandran Ashwin praises BCCI for the availability of DRS in Duleep Trophy
Ravichandran Ashwin has heaped praises on BCCI for their usage of the DRS in the ongoing Duleep Trophy. Citing an instance from the battle between India C and India D, Ashwin highlighted how it can save a player’s career.
In the Duleep Trophy match between India C and India D, Ricky Bhui, who is playing for the latter and is also well-known in the Indian domestic circuit, came on the front foot to defend against Manav Suthar. With his bat behind his pads and the ball striking on the latter, Suthar appealed but to no avail.
After a bit of thinking, Ruturaj Gaikwad went for the DRS. On closer inspection, the decision was overturned and Bhui was given out. Ashwin pointed out that the lack of DRS would have made Bhui believe that he could continue with the technique. However, the fact that he got out will now make him work on it.
Explaining in details on X, formerly known as Twitter, Ashwin said, “DRS for domestic cricket is not just for the right decisions to be made. Ricky Bhui’s dismissal last evening against Manav Suthar is a classic case of a batter who will get away with this technique 10/10 times in FC cricket. This was not a faulty technique pre-DRS but now it is.”
He further added, “Back in the day batters were given not out just because they managed to get on the front foot. Now, keeping your bat behind the pad can be fatal, imagine someone making the climb to international cricket without getting this experience Ricky got yesterday. He could very well take an entire test series to understand what he needs to work on and his career could well be over. This is a fab experience for more than just one reason, BCCI.”
