Play according to the merits of the ball – Smriti Mandhana on the cusp of India vs Pakistan in the women’s Asia Cup

As India Women gear up for their mega-clash against Pakistan in the curtain-raiser of the 2024 Asia Cup, India’s vice-captain and birthday girl, Smriti Mandhana opened up on what her exact approach is going to be in the continental fray.

The defending champions of the tournament, India will be hopeful of a victorious start while Smriti Mandhana revealed what exactly is the strategy going forward for the Indian women. Talking to Star Sports, she said that it is all about keeping things simple and that should do the work.

Smriti said, “My mindset is just to play according to the merits of the ball. Sometimes you bat first or you bat second. Definitely, when you bat second, you have that score in front of you and you can calculate your risks and you can go for it.”

She concluded by stating, “In the first innings, I feel in T20, it’s a bit of a disadvantage that you don’t know what you have to get to. But I think not to complicate it too much, just play according to the merits of the ball. Just keep it simple. I feel like that.”
