BCCI announce India squad for upcoming Sri Lanka tour; Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav to lead
BCCI announced the Indian squad for the upcoming tour against Sri Lanka which will see the Men in Blue taking on their neighbours in three T20Is and three ODIs. There were quite a few changes to the side including that of the vice-captaincy for the T20Is.
Rohit Sharma will be spearheading the Indian ODI contingent while the presence of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul includes the sheen in the top-order for the Men in Blue. Alongside the hallowed trio, Shubman Gill who will also be deputising for Hitman and Suryakumar Yadav in the ODIs and the T20Is respectively makes another bolstering addition to the already bedecked top-order of the Indian team.
The Men in Blue will be coming fresh from their triumphant series win against Zimbabwe and will be hoping to emulate their rampant form under their new preceptor, Gautam Gambhir. A few notable young inclusions to the squad were that of Riyan Parag, Harshit Rana and Khaleel Ahmed which will be a major boost in terms of maintaining a fine balance of youth and experience.
This is going to be an important series for the Men in Blue, particularly the ODIs, considering the fact that India will be playing only six ODIs en route to the 2025 Champions Trophy, three of which will be against Sri Lanka in the imminent fray while the other three being against England later in February 2025, just ahead of the aforementioned tournament.
