Partnerships are important – Rajat Patidar on RCB’s loss to PBKS

It wasn’t the finest of outings for RCB as they suffered their third defeat of the season. In a rain-curtailed affair, PBKS walked away with a thrilling win despite the best of efforts from Josh Hazlewood, Tim David and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Rajat Patidar did try and put a stop to the decline with a valiant knock in the middle but it wasn’t enough to help RCB cross the line.

Talking at the post-match presentation, Patidar opened up on the conditions while also emphasizing the fact that the batting unit could have come up with a better performance. He also pledged a stronger return as RCB returns to action tomorrow with the return-leg clash against Punjab in the latter’s backyard.

Explicating the conditions, Patidar said, “Initially it was sticking and two paced, but we could have done far better as a batting unit. Partnerships are important, we have lost wickets in quick intervals and that's a big lesson for us.” He also revealed why Devdutt Padikkal was left out, stating, “We've had to make that change due to conditions.”

He concluded with a word about the wicket and a pledge for the offing, stating, “The wicket wasn't that bad, it was under covers for a long time, it helped their bowlers, credit goes to them. No matter how the wicket plays, we need to bat well and get a winning total. The bowling unit is doing pretty well, that's a big positive. The batters have played with intent, that's something pleasing. We can correct some of our mistakes in the batting unit.”
