Coming back from a life-threatening accident, Rishabh Pant returned to Tests with a mind-boggling century against Bangladesh in Chepauk, a knock that had the craziest of shots executed with precision.

With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy coming up, Rishabh Pant’s current form will be a massive sigh of relief for the Indian fans and will definitely rekindle a handful of nightmares for the hosts of the latest iteration of the five-match series.

Pant’s heroics in Australia is well known, as he has smashed 624 runs from just seven Test matches. Out of all those staggering numbers, his knock of 159 Down Under was a brazen testimony to the kind of fearless attitude with which he bats. When India breached Gabba to win the last edition of the BGT sullying the pride of an unbreakable fortress, it was Rishabh Pant who steered the ship till the end and eventually administered the coup-de-grace.

Talking to Star Sports ahead of the latest edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australian captain, Pat Cummins, highlighted why players like Rishabh Pant can be dangerous and even game-changers. He drew parallels between Travis Head and Rishabh Pant, stating the fact that the hosts will have to keep the Indian wicket-keeper quiet if they are to win the series.

Cummins said, “Look, I think every team has one or two of those players who can take the game on. You know, we’ve got Travis Head and, and Mitch Marsh and those guys. I think that those guys, you know, that they’re going to be aggressive. If you miss your area a little bit, they’re going to take the game on. You know, something like a Rishabh Pant might play a reverse lap and it’s an incredible shot. And that’s just part of who he is.”

He concluded by stating, “I think we’ve become a bit more accustomed to it nowadays when some of those ridiculous shots are a bit more common. But yeah, he’s someone that’s had a big influence in a couple of series and got to try and keep him quiet.”
