It was a day of bedazzlingly brilliant Test cricket dedicated to Team India as they owned the second day of the ongoing Perth Test. An early mop-up from the seamers allowed India to open up an important 46-run lead at the end of the first innings.

Alex Carey (21) was the first one to fall on Day 2 as Jasprit Bumrah produced the all-important mishit. Not long after Nathan Lyon (5) was also on his way back to the pavilion, thanks to Harshit Rana’s second scalp of the innings. Rana continued to wage a full-blown battle claiming his third and the last wicket of the innings in the form of Mitchell Starc (26).

Australia got skittled out for 104 as Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowling lot with figures of 5/30. He had help from Mohammed Siraj (2/20) while Rana registered incredible numbers on his debut, chronicling 3/48.

The Indian openers started slow but ensured the fact that they kept their guards up. They continued to toil as Australia were pushed on to the backfoot time and time again despite the illustrious names in their bowling ranks. Yashasvi Jaiswal stayed unbeaten for 90 while KL Rahul was not out for 62 and at the end of the day’s play, India posted a staggering lead of 218 runs while totting up 172/0.

Brief scores:

India – 150/10

Australia – 104/10 (Mitchell Starc – 26, Jasprit Bumrah – 5/30)

India – 172/0 (Yashasvi Jaiswal – 90*, KL Rahul – 62*)
